I'm back...

Okay Otter, here is your post.

When I last wrote we were getting ready for our annual summer party. Despite rain and a few no shows, it was a nice low-key and fun affair. The food was great and the beers weren't bad either. We always ask our quests to bring school supplies for needy kids and we were able to collect a very large box, which was fantastic.

I went to the beach for another week. It was a nice week to go, because Maryland schools are back in session, so the crowds were mostly gone. It was nice not to have to deal with huge throngs of people on the boardwalk (Bob would differ with me on this subject). As I get older, I hate dealing with teenagers. Well, what I really hate are the kids that I would have hated in high school. They all look the same and seem to be more rude than the nerdy kids who are down there. Maybe I am wrong. I never went down when I was in high school. I never had the money and I would have never had permission to do so. Maybe in some way I am jealous of those kids.

Sophia of course had fun every day. She ate ice cream and cotton candy and rode rides every night (except for two) and played until she was so tired, I was surprised to see her awake when we got back to where we were staying. Sophia is not one of those kids who will sleep anywhere. Even when she was a small baby, I would have to turn down the lights and keep things quiet, because she would just get so overstimulated and not sleep. I think as long as there is something to check out she will not go to sleep. Everybody says that this is a sign of intelligence. I hope that this is the case and that it is not a sign of hyperactivity. I think Bob and I both would have been considered to have ADHD when we were kids, so I think our Sophia may be in the same boat. I see many trips to the school for visits with teachers and principals in our futures.

I was a kid who never did homework and somehow still managed to get B's in middle and high school. I would get demerits in middle school for not completing my work, but it never really mattered. I hated doing my homework and worse yet, I hated taking those books home. And why should I have done my work, if I could pass without it. High school was even worse. I guess I am lucky that way. What do I say to Sophia if she is the same way? Is there a way to get a kid to work? I have a feeling that we are going to find out.

This weekend we are celebrating Sophia's second birthday, even though her birthday is not until the 21st. I am anxious to see her play with her friends. She is such a social kid. When I took her to the park today I noticed that she has no problem walking up to any kid and saying hello. This makes me incredibly happy, because I was afraid that with my staying at home with her, she would be clingy and shy, but it seems that I must be doing something right, because she is quite the opposite. I think it is very important for kids to be socialized and play with kids of all ages. Sophia has a regular group of kids that she plays with that range in age from 18 months up to 12 years. It is great to watch the big ones look out for the little ones. I also think that it is important for kids to get outside to play each day, no matter what the weather is. Kids need sun and fresh air to grow. I think it keeps them strong and healthy.

On a personal note, I have started Weight Watchers again. I hate it, but know that it is a necessary thing. So for those of you who may have personal contact with me, don't take it personal if I am grouchy for a few weeks. I have quit smoking in the past, but I think changing eating habits is much worse. I have done WW before and have been successful. Please send some positive vibes in my direction.

I will have to put up some photos from Sophia's party next week.

Have a great weekend!!!
